I got a powerful text last week, it simply said: God is good. In the midst of this transitional time that we are entering together - I really needed to hear that. I needed to be reminded of that fact: God is good.
As I looked at those three words, I remembered that when we turn to God, trust in God, lean on God, good things happen. Now, it isn’t always “good” - the way the world understands “good”. It isn’t always easy. It isn’t always comfortable. It isn’t always predictable. God’s goodness us doesn’t mean we are happy all the time. In fact, our goodness might move us to tears.
Our willingness to serve God makes space for goodness in our lives. The goodness that allows us to hear the voice of those who our society has marginalized - people we have pushed to the sides. Hearing those voices - standing in the infinite goodness of God - we might be moved to tears - or moved to action.
Transformation happens if we allow ourselves to be used and guided by our Creator. When we are willing to raise our voices and our hands to protest injustice that surrounds us - transformation happens. God is most certainly good.
Standing in this time of change and preparation together - I am present to all the beauty that we have created as a church. I am present to creating a space where “welcome” is a defining characteristic of Stahl. I am present to the goodness of God that has been made present in this building and in our lives.
Let us continue to lean into the discomfort - so that this Goodness may continue to guide us in our work. Let us listen to the Spirit as it guides us all through new and uncomfortable waters.
