THE MENNONITE CHURCH.
Mennonites are part of the Anabaptist Christian tradition. Other Anabaptist traditions include: Church of the Brethren, Mennonite Brethren, and Amish. We don't wear plain clothes and we do drive cars- so what makes us Anabaptist or Mennonite?
We have a different way of understanding faith and church than many other Christian traditions:
- We are a peace church: when Jesus said love your enemies, we think he meant it.
- The church community is a central part of our faith: together we interpret scripture, pray for each other, and give and receive counsel.
- We believe in the priesthood of all believers: pastors are servants of the church, and have no special abilities that are kept from the rest of the church.
- We are non-creedal: our faith is not defined by a list of beliefs, but instead is best understood as a lived walk with Jesus.
- Baptism is for believers: we do not practice infant baptism. People are baptized as a public declaration of their faith, when they choose to make that commitment themselves.
